Have you recently got a quote from us and wonder how we actually perform tile roof restoration? We’ve written this handy how-to guide to help you understand what goes into your roof restoration.

How to restore a tile roof

Here’s the basic steps to perform a tile roof restoration:

  1. Install safety devices to keep you safe. The first thing to do is you must install short term edge protection or wear safety harnesses to guarantee that you operate safely while on the roof.
  2. Clean the roof. Then next have to clean the roof with a high-pressure water blaster. This also eliminates any further dirt and moss that’s been accumulated on the roof surface
  3. Spray on the primer & sealer. A coat of primer next will be applied to the recently cleaned roof. You must allow sufficient time for it to soak into the porous tile roof. This primer is one of the things that many roofers leave out, and can affect the overall quality. That’s why we always apply primer before paint.
  4. Apply 2 x coats of Roof Protect. once the previous coat has dried, spray on two thick coats of Roof Protect roof membrane in a colour of your choice.
  5. Apply optional Nano Glaze coating. The last thing we do is to apply an optional coat of Nano Glaze on top to make the roof look extra glossy. (Not recommended for metal roofs). This allows us to offer a huge 15 year warranty on a four coat system

Watch out for the cowboys

Recently, some companies in Brisbane claiming to be roof restoration experts have been going door-to-door providing verbal quotes for around $2,000-$4,000. These people have pressured homeowners and even turned up uninvited to complete the works at 7am. This style of tile roof restoration tactics is becoming more prevalent in our industry.

Commissioner for Consumer Protection David Hillyard said, “Consumers should not allow itinerant traders to begin work without authorisation and without honouring the cooling off period”.

“Don’t fall for high pressure sales tactics and, if tradies start work without your permission, demand that they stop immediately and leave your premises,” Mr Hillyard said.
